It's easy to forget just how much you rely on your garbage disposal until it stops working. The good news is that our plumbers have been repairing garbage disposals since day one, and we're ready to help on short notice. We have the tools and experience to fix almost every garbage disposal issue, and in a worst case scenario we can usually replace your garbage disposal on the same day.
Most garbage disposal breakages are really just blockages.
There are two major kinds of blockages in garbage disposal: lodged objects and buildup clogs. Removing a lodged object like a piece of silverware may only require disconnecting the unit and removing it by hand, but in some cases may require opening up the unit or removing it from the drain connection.
Garbage disposal clogs, on the other hand, are usually caused by buildups of grease, fibrous materials, and other materials that cannot be removed all at once. These clogs generally require drain cleaning techniques that have been augmented to work with garbage disposals, and may require us to remove the P trap.
Other common issues include under-performing garbage disposals, units that make too much noise, and units that become dislodged from their mounts. These issues can have a variety of causes and usually require professional help.
The last major cause of garbage disposal breakages is overload. Trying to grind too much material, or an electrical issue, can cause a failure and trip the automatic shutoff. While it's easy for anyone to turn the unit back on, it often requires a plumber to fix the original cause and prevent it in the future.
While we always strive to provide our clients with cost-effective solutions, unfortunately even the best garbage disposals do not last forever.
